Regalo di Natale 2014 per mia madre ed esperimento di pittura su misto lana/sintetico stretch.
La parte più complessa è stata decidere un decoro adatto: ho scartato l'inglese, perché mia mamma ha studiato francese e qual'è il senso dell'avere una maglia personalizzata se non ti rispecchia fino in fondo?
Lunghi pomeriggi su Pinterest hanno portato a una geniale frase di Camus, adattissima all'inverno, e ad una illustrazione perfetta (questa).
Una piccola modifica al disegno, un po' di studio sull'impaginazione, ed ecco il risultato.
Christmas present 2014 for my mum and a painting experiment on wool/polyester stretch fabric.
The hardest part was to figure a nice design: I decided to avoid english, for my mum had studied french and what is the point in a customized sweater if it does not express you completely?
Long afternoons on Pinterest got me to a genius phrase by Camus, perfect for winter, and a matching picture (this).
A little work on the picture, a little design effort, and here it is.
"In mezzo all'inverno ho scoperto in me un'invincibile estate": non so immaginare una frase migliore, per trarre calore anche dall'inverno, forza anche dal periodo più duro.
"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer": I cannot think of a better phrase, to get warmth even in winter, strength in the hardest of time.
Rispetto al disegno originale, ho preferito aggiungere un tocco di rosso, in modo da legare graficamente disegno e scritta.
Compared to the original drawing, I chose to add a touch of red, to link picture and writing.
In confronto alle t-shirt, questa maglia è più elastica e più attillata, perciò alcune parti del disegno si sono 'screpolate'. Soprattutto la scritta, dopo un anno, è un po' danneggiata: essendo posta sul seno, la stoffa si allunga molto, poiché la tinta è più rigida della stoffa non riesce a seguirla nella deformazione e quindi si rovina.
This sweater is more stretchy and more fitting than t-shirt, so some part of the work got a bit 'cracked'. The writing, after a year, is a bit damaged: on the chest, the fabric stretches a lot, the paint, being stiffer than the fabric, cannot follow the deformation so it gets damaged.
La scritta sul bordo è molto meno rovinata, proprio perché in quel punto la stoffa non viene tirata.
Con una maglia un po' più larga la scritta si sarebbe rovinata un po' meno, ma se considero che la maglia è stata usata un anno mi ritengo abbastanza soddisfatta.
Per realizzare il disegno e le scritte ho usato colori specifici per stoffa, per fissarli è necessario stirarli sul retro della stoffa ad alta temperatura per un paio di minuti. Su un tessuto di cotone non è un problema, ma in questo caso ho dovuto usare una temperatura più bassa, per compensare ho stirato per più tempo. Per evitare danni al materiale ho stirato a più riprese, lasciando tempo alla stoffa di raffreddare.
The writing on the edge is less spoilt, just because the fabric is not so stretched.
A larger sweater would be less damaged, but if I think it has been worn for a year I am pretty satisfied.
To paint writing and picture I used specific colours for fabric, to fix them you have to iron them on the back of the fabric for a couple of minute, maximum heat. On cotton is not big deal, but here I had to use a lower temperature, to compensate I ironed for a longer time. To prevent damage, I ironed it several times, giving the fabric enough time to cool.

Disegno e scritte sono realizzati a pennello. Preferisco non usare pennarelli per essere sicura che le sfumature siano identiche tra le varie parti del disegno. Il paesaggio è realizzato con più sfumature dello stesso azzurro: se si usano azzurri diversi l'effetto è un po' confuso e stridente.
E voi cosa vorreste dipingere sul vostro maglione?
Writing and picture are painted with brush. I rather use a brush than a pen, so that I get the same shades between the different parts of the picture. The landscape is made by different shades of the same tone of blue: if you use different tones the effect is a bit messy.
